Working visit of the Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Thailand to Gdansk to meet with the business sector and launch the 2nd Mobile Consular Unit of 2020

During 11 – 14 August 2020, H.E. Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Poland, visited Gdansk – one of the most important and economically vibrant port cities in Poland. On this occasion, the Ambassador-Designate together with Mr. Thum Niemsakul, Director of the Office of Commercial Affairs attended the following functions: (1) Meeting with the Pomeranian Regional Chamber of Commerce and the representatives of the private sector: the Ambassador met with Mr. Slawomir Halbryt, the President of the Council of the Chamber, to discuss trade and investment potentials of Thailand as well as ways to enhance business ties between Thailand and Poland. He also met with Dr. Dawid Nidzworski, CEO of Geneme – a company that is currently in talks with leading Thai companies with potential for business partnership, and visited the company’s production facility for COVID-19 pre-screening kits. (2) Visit to Thai Union Poland in Gniewino: the Ambassador was briefed by Mr. Piotr Sadowski, Plant Director, about the operation of Thai Union Poland which has been manufacturing King Oscar fish products that are sold in over 30 countries around the world. Thai Union Poland is an excellent example of high quality and responsible investment of the Thai company in Poland as it does not only contribute to the local economy and employment of over 600 workers, but, following the direction from Thai Union, the company also conducts its business in line with sustainability principles and respect to environment. (3) Visit to the Port of Gdansk: the Ambassador met with Mr. Kamil Tarczewski, Vice President of the Port, to learn more about the potentials of the Port of Gdansk which is the largest seaport in Poland and this year made it to the top 20 most important European ports, and discussed possible cooperation between the Port of Gdansk and relevant port authorities in Thailand as well as logistic opportunities that the Port can offer to Thai business sector. (4) Meeting with IAA Amber Expert: the Ambassador met with Mr. Michal Kosior, founder of IAA Amber Expert, to discuss ways to enhance business opportunities for Thai jewelers including through their participation in the international fairs or events in Poland and the promotion of knowledge and awareness about Amber which can pave way for further business partnership between Thai and Polish jewelers. In terms of the works related to the Thai community, the Ambassador-Designate launched the second mobile consular unit for which many Thai people residing in Gdansk and its vicinity came to receive consular services, and met with the owner and Thai people working in the Thai restaurants and Thai spas in Gdansk area.
