On 24 October 2015, H.E. Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, Ambassador of Thailand, presided over the opening of the DSF Martial Arts Contest: Muaythai Poland vs Thailand at Orbita Hall, Wroclaw, organized by Polish Muaythai Federation, World Muaythai Council (WMC) and organizing committee of the World Games 2017. Mr. Stephan Fox, Vice President of the WMC, and Mr. Wojciech Adamski, Vice Mayor of the city of Wroclaw, also joined the event.
The Royal Thai Embassy sponsored the competition as well as Thai Airways Public Company Limited, Thailand’s national carrier, also sponsored return air tickets for the Thai team participating in the competition. The event was able to attract over a thousand people and was televised live on Polsat Sports channel, a popular Polish sports channel. This event underscored the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between Thailand and Poland especially at the people’s level through sports.
This event was the first time in the history that Thai and Polish fighters were competing in Poland. It also marked an important step toward the organizing of World Games 2017 in Wroclaw where Muaythai will be an official sport for the first time, reinforcing the efforts to bring Muaythai to the Olympics. The DSF Martial Arts Contest: Muaythai Poland vs Thailand, included competition for the titles of Muaythai Against Drugs (MAD) and World Muaythai Federation Intercontinental Champions. Among the three Thai fighters participating, Mr. Surasak Dekli, won the title of WMC Champions at Light Heavy Weight class (not over 79.38 kgs).
