On 19 May 2013, H.E.Mr. Bansarn Bunnag, Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Poland and his spouse attended the closing ceremony of the Polish Muaythai Championship 2013 in Lodz, Poland as the honorable patron of the competition. The Polish Muaythai Championship was organized by the Polish Muaythai Federation and this year’s theme was “Muaythai against Narcotics”. In this opportunity, it also raised some money to donate for the Hansel and Gretel Foundation to support those children in need.

On this occasion, Ambassador Bunnag delivered an opening remark expressing his pleasure that Muaythai has been well-embraced into Polish society. He stressed that Muaythai was not only Thai national sport but also considered as a virtual part of Thai identity and culture, especially the process of “wai kru” and also their respects to their opponents. These showed both the strengths and the beauty of Thai. At the ceremony, Ambassador also presented some trophies to those supporters of the competition and the representatives from the city of Lodz to show his appreciation for their contributions in supporting Muaythai as one of the important sports in Poland. This, in turn, was improving the image of Thailand in Poland and was in line with the policy of the Government of Thailand to register Muaythai as a sport in Olympic game.
